Helen’s Bay Golf Club’s ‘Wednesday Boys’ have once again surpassed all expectation, with their support of our Charity. At their annual Christmas tea, they presented Chairman, Colin Barkley, with a cheque for the wonderful sum of £2,230, following a collection among their players and the wider Club membership. Spearheading the collection once again was their ‘enforcer extraordinaire’, Jim Wilson, who paid tribute to the generosity of all concerned. ‘The Children to Lapland Trust does such sterling work that, in many ways, collecting for them is easy…once you explain what is involved, everybody puts their hand in their pocket willingly’.
Nor did the generosity end there! Jo Farrell, a former Lady Captain at the Club and wife of leading Wednesday Boy, Dennis Farrell, presented Colin with 150 cuddly toys, which she and 2 other lady members knitted over the last 10 months…now that’s what we call commitment! These gorgeous creatures…the bears, not the ladies…will form part of the goody bag given to each child on their magical trip to Lapland on December 19th.
